Maybe my readers will indulge me in a post not about writing – at least not directly.  A fellow writer and blogger, Michelle Sodaro, just wrote about how important music is to her writing process.  That’s interesting to me because music has never been a part of my process.  I could probably tolerate some Enya or some other instrumental music in the background while I write, but anything with lyrics would certainly be a distraction as I can rarely resist the urge to sing along.

Just the other day a friend of mine suggested I might enjoy the soundtrack to Hamilton, the Broadway musical, given my incongruous predilections for both politics and hip-hop.  It does seem like something I’d be into, although I’ll admit I have some reservations.  First, in my mind, hip-hop is not a good fit for Broadway, and I’m not exactly sure why.  Second, I’ve never been a fan of Alexander Hamilton – as a staunch Federalist and an advocate for government-run economic development, he’s about as far from me politically as one can get.

But I’m going to try to set my biases aside and give it a shot.  I’ll report back here after I’ve listened to it and let you know what I think.
